Skin cancer is a serious – and sometimes fatal – disease caused by overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun’s rays or from other sources such as solariums.
Most cases of skin cancer in Australians are the result of too much sun exposure, particularly during childhood. There is also evidence that sunburn at a young age may start the development of melanoma.
Regular sun exposure that doesn’t result in burning still causes skin damage and increases your risk of other types of skin cancer.
